Delegation from Oman visits the Special Collections

Utrecht University’s Faculty of Geosciences has received a philanthropic donation to continue funding its Quantitative Water Management chair. The Sultan Qaboos Leerstoel Kwantitatief Watermanagement shall be held by Ruud Schotting and is part of the research on Sustainability within Utrecht University. An Oman government delegation has signed the agreement at the Utrecht University Hall on 22 May 2014. They also had a tour around Utrecht Science Park in the Uithof, and visited the Special Collections of the University Library.

Here they were shown, amongst others, a number of ancient Arabic manuscripts and old maps related to water management.  On the picture Bart Jaski, keeper of manuscripts, shows a fourteenth-century Arabic manuscript with the text of Al-Tifáschi about precious stones to His Excellency Sayyid Mohammed Harib 'Abdallah Al-Said, Ambassador to Oman in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (left), and His Excellency Habib al Riyami, Secretary General of Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (middle).
